What you can discuss privately

Erectile difficulties, low libido, premature ejaculation, questions about testosterone, hair loss, urinary symptoms and sexual-health worries are common and legitimate reasons to see a physician. In a virtual visit you can talk from home, without a waiting room. The physician takes a history, screens for underlying causes such as blood pressure, diabetes, medications or stress, and explains the options.

STI testing and treatment

A virtual visit can start the process: the physician reviews symptoms and exposure, orders laboratory tests at an Alberta lab when appropriate, and discusses treatment and partner notification once results are in. Some presentations, such as lesions, testicular pain or severe symptoms, need an in-person examination. Alberta also offers public STI clinics; the physician can point you to the right service.

Confidentiality

Your visit is part of a confidential medical record protected by Alberta’s Health Information Act. Nothing you discuss is shared with an employer or family member without your consent, except in the narrow situations required by law. Choose a private place, use headphones, and tell the physician at the start if anything is off-limits on video.

Treatment, prescriptions and follow-up

When appropriate, medication for erectile dysfunction or other concerns may be prescribed after the assessment; it is never guaranteed before the visit and may require checks first. Testosterone therapy requires blood tests and in-person follow-up. The physician decides what is safe based on your history. For urgent or life-threatening symptoms, call 911.
