Virtual Care Consent

By starting a DR Now booking or participating in a virtual visit with a Medicine Place clinician, you acknowledge and agree to the following information. Additional consent language may be presented in the secure Medeo booking or visit flow and must also be reviewed and accepted where required.

1. Nature of virtual care

Virtual care uses secure technology to connect you with a physician by video or another approved remote method. It can be convenient for many everyday concerns, but it is not identical to an in-person examination and may not be appropriate for every condition.

2. Informed participation

You understand that Medicine Place clinicians will rely on the information you provide, visible findings during the virtual encounter, and clinical judgment to assess your concern. You agree to answer questions honestly and completely to the best of your ability.

3. Clinical judgment and limitations

The physician will decide whether virtual care is suitable for your concern. If an in-person assessment, urgent care, imaging, laboratory testing, or emergency care is safer, the physician will advise you on next steps. Prescriptions, referrals, diagnoses, work notes, medical forms, and other outcomes are not guaranteed and depend on clinical assessment.

4. Your responsibilities

  • provide accurate identity, contact, and health information;
  • use a private space and a reliable device and internet connection;
  • follow appointment instructions sent to you;
  • have your Alberta Health Care Card and photo identification available when requested;
  • seek emergency care immediately if your condition worsens or becomes urgent; and
  • confirm you are authorized to book for any child or dependent included in the visit.

5. Privacy and technology

Personal health information is handled through secure systems used for booking and virtual care. Technology is powered by Medeo. Please review our Privacy Policy and any notices shown during booking. No electronic system is completely risk-free. Avoid public networks when possible and do not share your login credentials.

6. Recording and communications

Do not record your virtual visit unless permitted by Medicine Place policy and applicable law. Clinic teams may document the visit in your medical record as part of ordinary care. Appointment reminders, instructions, or follow-up messages may be sent through the secure systems used for your booking.

7. Emergencies

Virtual care is not for emergencies. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department for chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, stroke symptoms, major bleeding, loss of consciousness, severe allergic reaction, or any immediate safety concern.

8. Coverage and fees

Alberta Health coverage may apply when eligibility requirements are met. Private fees may apply to uninsured services or patients without eligible coverage. Final coverage and fee details are confirmed during booking or by the clinic.

9. Right to decline or withdraw

You may decline virtual care and request discussion of alternative care pathways. You may also end a virtual visit at any time. Ending a visit early may limit the clinician’s ability to complete assessment or provide next-step guidance.
